Growth Factor 1
Growth Factor 1 Review
Growth factor 1 is actually Insulin-like growth factor 1 or IGF-1 which is also called somatomedin C. It is a simple protein that is encoded by the bodies IGF1 gene also referred to as the "sulfation factor" called a non-suppressible insulin-like activity when it was first discovered in the 1970's.
The IGF-1 is actually a hormone that is very similar in its molecular structure to insulin. IGF-1 is vitally important in childhood growth and studies show that it continues to have measurable anabolic effects on adults. Scientist discovered a synthetic analog of IGF-1 called mecasermin which is used very effectively for treatment of growth failure.
IGF-1 is made up of 70 amino acids that are strung together in a single chain which have 3 intramolecular disulfide bridges. It has proven itself to be an important growth hormone that is able to regulate protein anabolic as well as linear growth.
It does this by directly affecting the pituitary output of Growth Hormone (GH) and researchers tell us that it has a GH independent growth stimulating effect on cartilage cells as well as being able to optimize all synergistic action with all the GH produced by the pituitary gland.
We will not go into the complex details of exactly how IGF-1 and IGF-2 regulate protein synthesis and the pharma-kinetics and on how it actually works. Suffice it to say that taking IGF-1 will more than likely help to speed up muscle repair when training hard with weights on a regular basis.
